Colin Cowherd isn’t the only one changing his tone on Zach Edey’s NBA future.
During Tuesday’s show on FOX Sports colleague Nick Wright also shared how his view of the Purdue center has evolved when it comes to his ability to play at the next level in just this season.
If a guy putting up a 40 and 10 in the Elite Eight doesn’t make you move then why play the games? If a guy going 37 and 10 in the championship game against the most dominant other seven-footer in college basketball doesn’t at least make you adjust your eyes than what will? … If you’d asked me three months ago, I’d have said he’s Boban Marjanovic. I don’t think that anymore. I think he is more than that because of what we saw him do. … I do think Zach Edey’s an NBA player and I didn’t think that at the beginning of the season.
Edey was named the back-to-back Naismith Player of the Year this season; something that’s only been done by Hall of Famers Ralph Sampson and Bill Walton.
Coming into 2024, some didn’t believe the Boilermakers big man could even be an NBA player — pointing to his lack of lateral quickness. But the 7’4″ senior has improved in nearly every facet of his game and looks like he could at least be a role player for team in need of some size and scoring touch.
It’s unclear right now where Edey will be drafted but some scouts have him going as high as picks No. 15-17.
