The results are in.
This is a strange week if you’re a Purdue football fan. Purdue finally did what we all wanted, they fired Ryan Walters. Now what? Well, apart from the Mike Bobinski press conference in which he said he hoped to have a hire in 7-10 days it’s been basically radio silence. There are some dubious accounts saying they have sources but when I say dubious oh boy do I mean dubious. You can’t trust them. So I decided to go to the wisdom of the masses and ask you all what you wanted in the next Purdue football head coach. Let’s see shall we?
The number one thing that our respondents were looking for was prior head coaching experience. That doesn’t come as a surprise when you look at what happened with Ryan Walters who came in with no head coaching experience. It’s interesting because did he fail because he had no head coaching experience? I would think not but somehow we, and I include myself in this, have glommed onto the idea that someone must be an experienced head coach to succeed at Purdue. Is that the case? I don’t think so for sure but it’s interesting nonetheless. An ability to bring in players was the second most wanted attribute.
Next, I asked you what Purdue men’s basketball record would be over their first two Big Ten games.
This one aged like milk. 55% of you are already wrong. I’m quite shocked that 21% of respondents said Purdue will be 0-2. Now, they might be right, I don’t know but that’s an awful lot of pessimism so early in the year. Only time will tell.
