Plus, has the Big Ten favorite changed?
This week’s survey results are in and we discuss the TKR snub as well as the change in the Big Ten favorite after Michigan State lost two in a row.
First though let’s focus on the fact that Trey Kaufman-Renn was absolutely snubbed by both the Karl Malone power forward award and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar center award when he was left off both lists. Last year the Bob Cousy Award fixed their mistake by adding Braden Smith and I’d expect one of these awards to do the same. So, which award should he be added to?

I agree with the majority here. Power forward landed in first place with 72%. This one wasn’t close and it seems like the Karl Malone award should be where we see TKR’s name in a month or so.
Next, I asked who the current Big Ten favorite is. The survey was opened after Michigan State had two straight losses and after Purdue lost to Michigan. Just a reminder that the week of January 17th we asked this question. To refresh your memory, those results had Purdue as the favorite with 53%, Michigan Sate with 27%, Illinois 10%, Michigan 8%, Oregon 2%. Then, we asked this again the first week of February where Michigan State was the favorite with 79%, Purdue with 19%, and Illinois with 2%. How have things changed over the last two weeks? Let’s see.

Purdue jumped up to first place with 74% (one assumes that most of the votes came in prior to the Michigan loss), Michigan State in second with 18%, and Michigan jumps into the rating with 8%. This one, if surveyed today, would likely have different results but these are good for a snapshot in time.
