The freshman guard from Brownstown was runner-up for Indiana’s Mr. Basketball but will take a redshirt year in preparation of next season
True freshman guard Jack Benter will redshirt this season for the Purdue Boilermakers following a senior season that saw him lead Brownstown to the Indiana State Championship game and a runner-up finish for Indiana’s Mr. Basketball. The 6’5 guard is well known for his shooting and high basketball IQ but many fans from Purdue know him for him breaking a backboard on a breakaway dunk last season.
With a logjam of minutes at the shooting guard and small forward positions that will see Fletcher Loyer, Gicarri Harris, Myles Colvin, Cam Heide, and even Brian Waddell eating up minutes, it was always a possibility that Benter was going to redshirt. This now allows Painter to even out classes moving forward as the 2024 class contained five players while the 2023 class contained only one (Myles Colvin).
The 2025 class will now contain Benter along with Antoine West, and at least one other player. Currently the Boilers are recruiting two highly rated power forwards in Niko Bundalo and Sebastian Williams-Adams (former teammate of Daniel Jacobsen). A decision on Raleigh Burgess is still upcoming and likely to be determined through the first several games.
Jack Benter will redshirt according to Matt Painter. Still deciding on Raleigh Burgess.
