Although it shouldn’t really surprise anyone, Purdue star Zach Edey has been named the AP National Player of the Year for the second season in a row.
It wasn’t even a close race this season, as Edey received 57 of 62 first-place votes. That being said, Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht and Houston’s Jamal Shead were technically in the mix due to their success.
Edey has been incredible for the Boilermakers this season, averaging 25.0 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. His performances have only gotten better as the year has progressed.
After scoring 27 points in a Sweet 16 victory over Gonzaga, Edey carried Purdue to a win against Tennessee in the Elite Eight with 40 points and 16 rebounds.
Not even Edey’s biggest critics can deny that he earned AP Player of the Year. What he’s able to do on both ends of the floor is just absurd.
Edey will leave Purdue as the program’s all-time leading scorer. He also has the most rebounds, double-doubles and games won of any Boilermaker.
What really matters to Edey, however, is winning a national championship. He’s just two more wins away from accomplishing that goal.
Edey will be back in action this Saturday when Purdue faces NC State in the Final Four.
