Who will start at wide receiver? I am not sure anyone knows.
The portal and players graduating wrecked the Wide Receiver position. Leaving Purdue with a lot of unknowns and unproven talent across the board.
Purdue lost Jaron Tibbs, Jahmal Edrine, Shamar Rigby, LeLand Smith, CJ Smith, Kam Brown and Andrew Sowinski.
Enter EJ Horton (FAU), Nathan Leacock (Tennessee), Chauncey Magwood (UCF), Isaiah Meyers (Charlotte) and Charles Ross (USC).
Horton will enter his final year of eligibility and his fourth overall school. He started his collegiate career at Marshall, then spent time at West Virginia then took time at FAU, where he was hurt.
Now, at Purdue, he looks to find some footing and stability during his only year at Purdue. At 6-1, 185 pounds, he has prototypical size for the wide receiver position. Can he stay healthy and produce?
Leacock is dripping with potential. The 6-3, 220 pound wide receiver is the highest portal addition for Coach Odom. He will enter his 3rd year of collegiate football with an opportunity to become Purdue’s lead wide receiver. Can he?
Chauncey Magwood will enter his final year of eligibility at his 3rd stop during his college football career. He started at Kentucky, where he produced as a young wide receiver. When he arrived at UCF in 2023, he took a redshirt season. UCF had some serious issues on offense this past season and he did not produce well at all, but the same could be said for all of the Purdue Wide Receivers that left town.
Isaiah Meyers is the definition of an outside wide receiver at 6-5, 190 pounds. He started his career at Last Chance U in Kansas. He produced at Independence Community College before heading to Charlotte. He had just 13 catches for 237 yards and three touchdowns at Charlotte.
Charles Ross is headed into his SEVENTH collegiate football season. The old man of the roster comes to Purdue from USC, Purdue will be his fourth stop as he has battled career long injuries.
In 38 career games he has exactly 70 catches and just over 900 yards receiving. Last year he only had one catch at USC.
Overall, the group is pretty unproven. Leacock has the most potential of five, has the size to be a solid outside wide receiver and to produce right away. Who else will contribute? It will be hard telling until the fall.
