Staring down the barrel of a 1-11 season, the Boilers lay another egg in front of a packed Ross Ade Stadium
The Purdue Boilermakers were once again dominated by another B1G opponent, this time falling 49-10 to the Penn State Nittanny Lions. Dominated from the start of the game, the Boilers fell down 14-0 in the first quarter and could never recover. That now places the season total of the first quarter against FBS opponents at 90-3 and there just isn’t enough talent from the coaches or the players to constantly play behind from two scores.
Head Coach Ryan Walters and Purdue players Kydran Jenkins and Max Klare met with the media following the game.

It should be noted that a question was asked in the interview about how this season may have brought forward more questions than answers. Walters’ response of, “I’m not sure, I’ve been asked a lot of questions. A lot of questions by a lot of people. That’s all I’ve got to say about that,” is very confusing. That was an opportunity for the head coach to speak about what he has learned in his second year at the helm and how he has gone about solving it.
Instead, Walters’ response rings louder than ever that the job is simply too big for the former defensive coordinator. This isn’t a situation where Purdue can simply throw more money at the problems by bringing in a few players here and there from the portal and suddenly get to 6 wins next year. This is a total and utter rebuild of a program that is just two seasons removed from a B1G Title Game appearance that this head coach has brought on.
Why give the guy who has shoved bad football in the faces of Purdue fans for two years a third year when we all likely know the outcome already? We saw this same situation play out with Darrell Hazel who took a team that had made back to back bowl games suddenly destroy the program to a 1-11 season and then followed it up with 3-9 and 2-10. If you wouldn’t give Hazell the keys next year given his history here at Purdue, there is no reason to do so next season with Walters.
I don’t know how you justify that decision if you retain him for another season with an entirely new staff given the head coach of the program can’t find the answers to the hardest questions he has faced this season.
