Good team beats bad team…News at 11.
Sometimes writing about sports is both easy and hard at the same time. There’s no in-depth analysis needed to understand this game. A good football team beat a bad football team. That’s not fun to write, and I assume it’s not fun to read either.
Penn State took the opening kick, drove 75 yards in 9 plays and scored a touchdown. It was pretty much all downhill from there for the Boilermakers. The defense refused to cover Tyler Warren and Warren responded by putting up video game numbers, finishing the game with 8 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown and there carries for 63 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Drew Allar was nearly perfect, completing 17/19 attempts for 247 yards and 3-touchdowns.
While the Nittany Lions offense was busy dissecting the Boilermaker defense, the Purdue offense showed promise, but ultimately sputtered and failed. Hudson Card was a sitting duck in the pocket and the Purdue receivers struggled to get separation fast enough to provide a target for a scrambling Card.
MAX KLARE (here we go), Max Klare played well. Let’s talk about Max for a little while. He’s proving to be one of the most reliable receiving tight ends in the nation. He was Hudson Card’s preferred target all game, and then managed to snag the Boilermakers only touchdown off a nice pass from Ryan Browne. Klare finished the game with 7 receptions for 91 and a touchdown. He continues to drive up his asking price heading into the off-season.
Other than that, it was an ugly, uninteresting game. There was little doubt coming in, and there was no doubt after the first quarter. I’m getting to the hard part of sports writing because I don’t know what else to say that hasn’t been said. Good teams beat bad teams and beating bad teams is Penn State’s calling card in the Big 10. I wish I had more to say, but that’s the long and short of it.
Let’s all think bout the basketball win last night instead.
