Another sweep!
On Friday night, the Purdue volleyball team completed their second sweep, in two matches might I add, of this year’s NCAA Tournament. They took down Loyola Chicago who upset 5 seed BYU in the first round. It had all the makings of a Cinderella story as Loyola Chicago came into Holloway to take on the Boilermakers. Well, Purdue shut that storybook real quick as they took set one 25-20 and never looked back. The third set was an impressive 25-12 which is just a wild volleyball score, especially wild for the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It just goes to show how good this team is, but also how consistent they are. Loyola Chicago took down a very good BYU team the night before yet couldn’t ever really truly challenge Purdue the next night. Volleyball is a tough sport.
Eva Hudson played another stellar match for the Boilermakers and set her own record for hitting percentage at 56.2%. Chloe Chicoine had nine kills, nine digs and three blocks. Ali Hornung led with 10 digs. Raven Colvin finished the match with seven kills. It was an all around team effort as Purdue was firing on all cylinders.
Up next for the Boilermakers is a Sweet 16 matchup with the 4 seed Louisville Cardinals. The NCAA just announced today that this game will be played on Thursday, December 12th, at 9:30 PM and will air on ESPN2.
