Trying out something new with the SB Nation Community.
In order to leverage the size of SB Nation, the folks over at The Only Colors reached out to the rest of the managers of the Big Ten blogs to see if there was interest in creating a Big Ten blog version of the Top 10. Rather than doing a whole top 25 which let’s be honest most people phone in, we landed on a Top 10. Each week we hope to release these. A performer of the week will also be discussed. I’ll try my best to be rationale and not simply place Purdue in the number one spot and with the top performer of the week.
This year, the 16 SB Nation sites of the Big Ten (UCLA and USC don’t have their own sites) are going to collaborate to bring you a new weekly feature. After each week concludes, we are going to vote on a national Top Ten and nominate a player for “Player of the Week”. After a few weeks, we are also going to add a ranking of Heisman frontrunners. We thought it would be nice to let you all hear from other writers, not just that of your school, so you can get more of a feel of what the rest of the country is saying. Simple procedure for determining the Top Ten: 10 points for a first-place vote, 9 for second, etc. We hope you enjoy this.
Here is the Top Ten after week 1.
10. USC – 18 points
9. Utah – 21 points
8. Oregon – 36 points
6. Notre Dame – 46 points
6. Ole Miss – 46 points
5. Penn State – 51 points
4. Alabama – 80 points
3. Texas – 95 points
2. Ohio State – 105 points
1. Georgia – 119 points
For Player of the Week, we had a handful of names nominated, but only one player received more than one vote from our panel. We’ll get to him in a moment, but first, here are the honorable mentions (in no particular order): Kyron Hudson – WR, USC; Jaxson Dart – QB, Ole Miss; Miller Moss – QB, USC; Travis Hunter – WR/CB, Colorado; Tetairoa McMillan – WR, Arizona. And now, your Week 1 Player of the Week:
Ashton Jeanty! The running back from Boise State had a monster game against Georgia Southern. His final stat line reads 20 carries for 267 yards and six touchdowns. Congratulations, Mr. Jeanty.
What are your thoughts on this first ranking? Agree or disagree?
