March Madness is officially here and as fans prepare for one of the best events on the sports calendar, Seton Hall Sports Poll conducted a study to determine the most popular players in all of college basketball.
To no one’s surprise Iowa’s Caitlin Clark was No. 1 by a healthy margin. But it may shock some that there were more women than men in the top-five.
Here were the results via sports business reporter Darren Rovell:
- Caitlin Clark, Iowa G – 44%
- Angel Reese, LSU F – 18%
- Hunter Dickinson, Kansas C – 11%
- Zach Edey, Purdue C – 11%
- Paige Bueckers, UConn G – 10%
The poll appears to be further confirmation that women’s basketball is growing (Stanford’s Cameron Brink placed sixth). We’ve seen such tremendous steps in all of female sports but especially basketball.
Ladies college hoops has never been more popular and the WNBA’s audience seems to grow substantially year after year. It’s such a great trend to see given the prevailing attitudes towards women’s sports in the past.
We’ll likely see one of the top-four women listed playing in the Final Four over the next couple of weeks. While Zach Edey and Hunter Dickinson attempt to carry their respective No. 1 and 4 seeds deep into The Dance on the men’s side.
