Zach Edey may not be leaving college basketball a national champion but the Purdue Boilermaker says he can still hold his head up high for how he approached his career.
Speaking to the media after Monday night’s 75-60 loss to the UConn Huskies, Edey told reporters that people can say whatever they want about him but they can never question the work he put in.
“You can say whatever you want about me,” the All-American explained. “However I played, you can say whatever. But you can never say that I didn’t give it my 100% every single time I stepped on the floor, every single time I went and practiced. That’s what I’ll always hang my hat on.”
Edey scored nearly two-thirds of Purdue’s points in its national title loss, dropping 37 points to go along with 10 rebounds and a pair of seismic blocks.
Unfortunately it wasn’t nearly enough to take down Dan Hurley’s Huskies who wore the Boilermakers down over the course of 40 minutes with their size, defensive tenacity and shot-making.
That makes back-to-back championships for the University of Connecticut to make it six since 1999. Which ties them with the North Carolina Tar Heels and only trails Kentucky (8) and UCLA (11) all-time.
