Zach Edey Made Purdue History During Big Ten Tournament This Saturday

The Purdue Boilermakers are in a dogfight with the Wisconsin Badgers in today’s Big Ten Tournament semifinal game. But Purdue superstar Zach Edey has been having another strong game and just made some school history in the process.

During the second half of the game, Edey rose to 16 points on the day. At 2,325 points scored for the Boilermakers, he passed the legendary Rick Mount for the most points in school history – breaking a record that had stood for over 50 years.

Granted, Edey has had an entire extra year to add to his point total whereas Mount was able to make his mark over just three at the varsity level.

Nevertheless, Edey now stands on top of the mountain as the all-time leading scorer in Purdue history. Fans were ready to heap praise on him for his incredible accomplishment.

“What an amazing accomplishment for Zach. His journey to this point is storybook,” one Purdue fan replied.

“Congrats to @zach_edey on this amazing accomplishment!” wrote another.

“Not bad for a guy who was ranked 400+ by the recruiting experts coming out of high school,” a third noted.

Last year Edey won just about every major accolade including the National Player of the Year award. However, the Boilermakers were unable to make any noise in the NCAA Tournament as they were shocked by 16-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson in just the second-ever 16-over-1 victory in history.

The Boilermakers have only made it past the Sweet 16 once under head coach Matt Painter and if they want to send their school legend off in a big way, they need to make a much bigger impact in the NCAA Tournament.

March Madness is upon us.
