INDIANAPOLIS – Former Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck has rejoined Stanford football as the Cardinal’s general manager. He’ll oversee all aspects of the program, including working with head coach Troy Taylor on recruting and roster management. He’ll also work with university and athletic department leaders on student-athlete, alumni, sponsor and fan experiences.
“I am a product of this University, of Nerd Nation; I love this place,” Luck said in a school release. “I believe deeply in Stanford’s unique approach to athletics and academics and the opportunity to help drive our program back to the top.”
Luck starred at Stanford from 2009-2011, leading the Cardinal to a 31-7 record and an Orange Bowl victory after the 2010 season. He was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 2010 and 2011 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022.
“Coach Taylor has the team pointed in the right direction,” Luck added. “I cannot wait to work with him, the staff, and the best, brightest, and toughest football players in the world.”
The Colts selected Luck number one overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. He earned Pro Bowl honors four times, leading the team to the 2014 AFC Championship Game while leading the league in touchdown passes with 40. After sitting out the 2017 season with an injury, he returned in 2018 to lead the Colts back to the playoffs and won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.
He retired two weeks before the start of the 2019 season at age 29, citing a cycle of injuries and rehab. Luck returned to the game of football as a high school assistant coach.
