BROWNSBURG, Ind. — A high school football coach who plies his trade in Brownsburg has been named the NFL’s 2024 High School Coach of the Year.
The Indianapolis Colts announced Wednesday that John Hart has been named the 2024 winner of the NFL’s Don Shula High School Coach of the Year.
Hart was awarded the accolade from a list of 32 different nominees who were evaluated not only for their on-field success but also their “character, integrity, leadership, community service and commitment to player health and safety.”
According to the release, Hart recently concluded his 40th season as a high school football coach. He led the Brownsburg High School football program to the 6A state title last season, becoming the first coach in Indiana’s history to celebrate a state championship victory at three different high schools.
Hart assumed control of the Brownsburg High School football program in 2015 and has since gone on to lead them to an 82-19 record.
The prize will see Hart awarded $10,000 and a $15,000 grant from the NFL Foundation and Nike that will be allocated toward the Brownsburg football program.
As the winner, Hart will also have the chance to attend the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando and Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans where he will enjoy VIP access, the release said.
Hart was also recognized by the Colts in December as the 2024 Colts Coach of the Year for his success and positive impact on the Brownsburg community.
“I am thankful, humbled and honored to have been nominated by the Colts for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year,” Hart said. “I will be forever grateful to Brownsburg High School and the Brownsburg community for trusting, believing and supporting my staff as well as the past and present football players.”
