Of interest to the Indianapolis Colts, four tight ends have made Daniel Jeremiah’s version 2.0 big board.
One of the best there is in the draft world, Jeremiah, recently updated his original big board ahead of the NFL combine, and included were four tight ends within is top 50.
At the top, are the two prospects you’d expect, with Penn State’s Tyler coming in at No. 5 overall and Michigan’s Colston Loveland at No. 7.
Jeremiah also recently detailed the differences between these two top prospects.
Then coming in at No. 36 overall is LSU’s Mason Taylor, followed by Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo at at No. 45.
Tight end, of course, is one of, if not the biggest need for the Colts this offseason. As GM Chris Ballard said after the season, Indianapolis needs a greater pass-catching presence at this position group.
Last season, the Colts four tight ends on the 53-man roster totaled 467 receiving yards among them. For some context, there were 25 individual tight ends across the NFL who had more yards than Indianapolis’ entire room did.
But beyond the passing game, having a well-rounded skill set, including versatility and blocking ability, can add a new dimension to an offense, specifically, some unpredictability with that player being able to wear a variety of hats.
While Warren is an obvious favorite for the Colts in mock drafts, the good news for Indianapolis is if they go in a different direction or if Warren isn’t available, this is a deep tight end class with The Athletic’s Dane Brugler mentioning that there are five-six starting caliber players in this year’s draft at that position.
