INDIANAPOLIS – Lou Anarumo’s defensive staff continues to take shape.
The Indianapolis Colts are hiring Chris Hewitt as Anarumo’s secondary coach/pass game coordinator, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Hewitt 50, has been with the Baltimore Ravens since 2012. He most recently held the positions of assistant head coach, pass game coordinator and secondary coach.
He follows the addition of linebackers coach James Bettcher to Anarumo’s staff. Anarumo was hired on Jan. 21 to replace Gus Bradley as coordinator.
Previously, the Colts announced linebackers coach Richard Smith and defensive backs coach Ron Milus would not return. Charlie Partridge is returning to oversee the defensive line.
Hewitt is a product of the University of Cincinnati who played three seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
After collegiate coaching stints at Notre Dame (2003) and Rutgers (2004-11), he served as the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive backs coach from 2012-19. He was pass defense coordinator from 2020-21 and added the responsibility of secondary coach from 2022-23 before his role expanded to assistant head coach last season.
Hewitt’s connection to Ravens coach John Harbaugh likely played a role in his arrival in Baltimore. Harbaugh was Cincinnati’s special teams coach when Hewitt first arrived on campus.
In Hewitt’s first season with Baltimore, he played a role in the Ravens’ 34-31 win over San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII.
