In Field Yates’ latest 2025 NFL mock draft over at ESPN, he has the Indianapolis Colts landing dynamic tight end Tyler Warren out of Penn State at pick No. 14.
Warren has been an extremely popular selection for the Colts in many mock drafts this offseason and understandably so.
The Colts have an obvious massive need at the tight end position, specifically finding a larger pass-catching presence, which Warren would certainly provide. He would total 1,230 receiving yards with eight touchdowns during the 2024 season.
But beyond what Warren brings to the passing game, he has a very well-rounded skill set as well. He’s versatile and can be moved around the formation and is a very capable blocker as well.
Those elements within an offense at the tight end position can add a layer of unpredictability to an offense, making it more difficult for defenses to decipher what’s coming because that player can wear a variety of hats within the offense.
“He can make some incredibly difficult catches and is one of the most dangerous run-after-catch players in this class,” wrote Yates. “He blends power and fearlessness to break tackles at will, forcing 21 missed tackles on catches this past season.”
However, having said that, while the Colts would benefit greatly from having Warren, so would just about every other offense. Although he’s a popular pick in mock drafts, it is possible that he’s not on the board when the Colts are picking either.
On many big boards, including Yates, Warren is considered a top 10 prospect and there have been some prominent mock drafts recently, including one from Daniel Jeremiah, who has him as a top 10 selection.
Given the depth of this draft class at certain positions, I do believe there is a world where it would make sense for the Colts to trade down from pick No. 14 if Warren or safety Malaki Starks are off the board.
Beyond Warren, there were three other tight ends who made Jordan Reid’s top 50 prospects big board.
