Could Aaron Rodgers be the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback in 2025? The betting odds have the Colts among the favorites to land the future Hall of Famer.
The Jets have decided to move on from the quarterback after just one full season with him because of injury. New head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey will get a clean slate to rebuild.
Of course, part one of this equation is Rodgers deciding whether he wants to play in 2025 or retire. But if he does decide to return to the NFL for one more year, I just can’t envision the Colts being a landing spot.
General manager Chris Ballard did make it known that he wants to bring in competition this offseason for Anthony Richardson. However, signing Rodgers doesn’t accomplish that. If you have Rodgers as your quarterback, there is no competition–he is the starter.
That then completely eliminates any sort of growth that you hope Richardson has while being pushed for playing time. Now, I do think if the Colts bring in a new quarterback and he beats out Richardson for the starting job, they’ll go that route. But I also believe that an important part of all of this is creating competition for Richardson and not just designating him the starter or backup prior to training camp taking place.
In addition to all of that, there is also the salary cap component to this and having to pay Rodgers whatever the market might end up commanding and for a Colts team with plenty of positions they have to address, are they willing to devote a large chunk of cap space to Rodgers?
While we don’t yet know if Rodgers will play in 2025, odds for where he could play have already been released. Here is the rundown of odds for where Rodgers could play next season (via DraftKings):
