INDIANAPOLIS – Braden Smith is remaining with the Indianapolis Colts for at least another season.
The team and its veteran right tackle have agreed to a restructured contract, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. ESPN first reported the news.
Smith’s situation was uncertain as the new league approached.
He was due to count $19.75 million against the salary cap and missed the final five games of 2024 because of personal issues. He finished the season on the reserve/non-football injury list.
Details of the restructure aren’t immediately known, but Smith will be a free agent in 2026.
General manager Chris Ballard indicated during the NFL Scouting Combine there was a good chance Smith might return.
“We’re supporting Braden,’’ he said. “I think the world of him and he’s been a great player for us. We’ll see going forward.
“He’s doing really well and he wants to play football. We’ll work through the rest of it.’’
Since being selected in the second round of the 2018 draft, Smith has started 92 games at right tackle.
