The Indianapolis Colts could feature an electrifying offense this season. If that’s the case, quarterback Anthony Richardson and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell might be two reasons why. The talented combo has shown chemistry so far during the Colts’ offseason program. Luke Schultheis of Stampede Blue said Richardson and Mitchell could make the Colts a dangerous team:
“It’ll be interesting to see if such rapport carries over into Colts camp next month and the upcoming regular season—as such a combo could make the Indy offense even more dangerous.”
When you think of a Colts QB-WR duo, Richardson and Michael Pittman Jr. probably come to mind first. However, we might witness a bunch of Richardson-to-Mitchell plays as well this upcoming season.
Colts’ Anthony Richardson-Adonai Mitchell Combo “Could Make The Indy Offense Even More Dangerous”
Anthony Richardson, the Young Franchise QB
2022 was miserable for the Colts, who finished with a forgettable 4-12-1 record. Quarterbacks Matt Ryan, Nick Foles, and Sam Ehlinger each started games that season. Let’s face it, that’s not an elite trio by any stretch of the imagination.
In an attempt to fix its QB problem, Indianapolis drafted Anthony Richardson fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, his rookie season was cut short due to a shoulder injury. The former Florida Gators star played just four games. Yet, he showcased his ability to make plays with his legs and strong arm.
Richardson is now healthy and ready to go. Hopefully, he can avoid the injury bug all season long and power the Colts to the playoffs.
Adonai Mitchell, the 2024 Draft Steal
Earlier this offseason, Indianapolis re-signed Michael Pittman to a three-year, $70 million deal. That wasn’t good enough, though. While the Colts also had Josh Downs and Alec Pierce on the roster, they still needed to add another dynamic receiver.
The team drafted Adonai Mitchell in the second round (52nd overall pick) of this year’s draft. Mitchell possesses 4.34 speed and is an outstanding route runner. He finished with 845 receiving yards at 15.4 yards per catch last year at Texas. Emory Hunt of Football Gameplan and CBS Sports said he believes the Colts landed a “bonafide No. 1” target in Mitchell. If that’s true, the former Longhorn will be one of the biggest steals of the 2024 draft.
Richardson-to-Mitchell Could Be Special
The Colts have had a few great QB-WR duos over the years. Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison were sensational during their 11 seasons together, helping the team win Super Bowl XLI along the way. Then later on, there were Pro Bowlers Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton.
Anthony Richardson could eventually team with Pittman, Downs, or Mitchell to form the next legendary combo in Indianapolis. Pittman and Downs are considered the Colts’ best two receivers right now. Yet, Mitchell might emerge as the No. 1 guy down the road. Whether he’s the first, second, third, or fourth option behind Pierce, Mitchell should continue to have chemistry with Richardson. They will make Indy’s offense, including star running back Jonathan Taylor, fun to watch every Sunday.
