INDIANAPOLIS – Daniel Scott’s second season with the Indianapolis Colts mirrored his rookie season.
Unfortunately.
The team’s 2023 fifth-round draft pick suffered a torn Achilles tendon in OTA work last week, ending his second year.
Scott missed his rookie season after tearing his ACL in early June during the team’s offseason work.
“Tough break for him,’’ coach Shane Steichen said Tuesday afternoon. “Great competitor. Just feel for him. He battled back from his ACL, and then to have this happen to him is tough.
“Wish him all the best in his rehab going forward.’’
Scott apparently was in the mix for playing time at an uncertain safety position.
“He was doing a helluva job out here in OTAs,’’ Steichen said. “And then to have this happen to him again was a tough break.’’
Outside speculation prior to Scott’s injury has involved the Colts adding a veteran safety to pair with starting strong safety Julian Blackmon. Available vets include Jamal Adams, Justin Simmons, Quandre Diggs, Micah Hyde and Eddie Jackson.
“We’re always looking at stuff.’’
Along with Blackmon, the Colts’ safeties room includes Nick Cross and Rodney Thomas II.
Pittman sidelined, but OK
Steichen confirmed Michael Pittman Jr. will not participate in this week’s mandatory minicamp.
The team’s veteran receiver suffered a minor knee injury two weeks ago in practice when he elevated for an Anthony Richardson pass and collided with a few defensive backs.
Pittman did not practice last week.
“We’re going to hold him out this week as well,’’ Steichen said. “Precaution, that’s it.
“Get him ready for training camp.’’
