The Indianapolis Colts aren’t in dire need of a wide receiver. Yet, they could use another one, especially if it’s Davante Adams. The star wideout has been mentioned in a bunch of trade rumors recently. It’s unclear, though, whether the Las Vegas Raiders will actually move him.
If Adams is traded, the Kansas City Chiefs would be an ideal landing spot. Could you imagine a Patrick Mahomes-Davante Adams duo? It could certainly help the Chiefs win their third consecutive Super Bowl. However, it’s unlikely that the Raiders would trade him to a division rival.
Teams like the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints also make sense. Adams is quite familiar with both teams’ quarterbacks. He played for years with current Jet Aaron Rodgers when the two were with the Green Bay Packers. And he played with Saints quarterback Derek Carr in college and with the Raiders.
But what about the Colts? While Anthony Richardson isn’t quite on Mahomes’ level, he has the potential to become a superstar quarterback. Adams would help Richardson’s development and make Indy a team to be reckoned with this season.

His Career to Date
Adams was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the second round (53rd overall pick) of the 2014 NFL Draft. The former Fresno State star would play eight seasons in Green Bay. After failing to reach the 500-yard receiving mark in each of his first two seasons, Adams put up 997 yards in 2016. He was named to his first Pro Bowl the following year and then signed a four-year, $58 million contract extension. 2020 was one of the best seasons of his career. He led the NFL with 18 receiving touchdowns and made his fourth straight trip to the Pro Bowl.
Adams was traded to the Raiders in the 2022 offseason. He signed a five-year, $141.25 million contract with the team, making him the league’s highest-paid wide receiver. During his first season with the Raiders, he led the league in touchdowns with 14 and also produced 100 receptions for 1,516 yards. He has caught 18 passes for 209 yards in three games this year.
Why the Colts Should Make the Deal
Adams has never played in a Super Bowl. With that said, he likely prefers to go to a contender like the Chiefs. The Colts are not a Super Bowl contender by any stretch of the imagination. But by acquiring Adams, they could have a realistic chance of reaching the playoffs and making some noise.
Indianapolis hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2020 season. It’s time to make a big-time move that can help end the drought.
General manager Chris Ballard isn’t known for making big-time moves. That means the Colts trading for Davante Adams is probably not going to happen.
However, it needs to happen. Adams could team with Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce to give the Colts a talented wide receiver corps. The unit would certainly help Richardson in the passing game. Throw in running back Jonathan Taylor, who will hopefully return from injury soon, and Indianapolis could possess a fun-to-watch offense this year.
Reportedly, the Raiders want at least a second-round pick for Adams. While a second-rounder is considered a valuable pick, it’s worth giving up for one of the league’s best wide receivers.
