Former NFL player and executive Bill Tobin has passed away at the age of 83.
His death was announced on Friday by the Cincinnati Bengals. He joined the team as a scouting consultant in 2003 and worked in player personnel through the end of the 2022-23 season.
Before he joined the Bengals, he was the general manager of the Chicago Bears from 1987-92 and the Indianapolis Colts from 1994-96. Jim Irsay, who owns the Colts, released a statement upon hearing the news about Tobin’s death.
“Rest in peace, Bill Tobin, our GM from ’94-96. Bill was a tough, old-time football man, starting as a player in the old AFL. He lived a magical life associated with the game he loved, and our league will miss him. My love and prayers for Bill’s family,” Irsay tweeted.
Before getting into management, Tobin played for the Houston Oilers in 1963 before playing two seasons in the Canadian Football League.
His son, Duke, still works with the Bengals as their Director of Player Personnel and has been with the team since 1999.
Our thoughts are with Tobin’s family and friends.
