Some Indianapolis Colts fans would love to get Arch Manning in 2026. But what about his Texas teammate, Quinn Ewers this year? Jacob Camenker of USA Today predicted landing spots for every quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. He has the Colts selecting Ewers in the fifth round:
“Quinn Ewers, Texas
- Team: Indianapolis Colts
- Pick: No. 151, fifth round
Questions exist about Ewers’ arm strength – he threw a lot of touch passes at Texas and didn’t drive the ball into his downfield throws – but he led the Longhorns to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances while showing poise in the pocket and between-the-numbers accuracy. Shane Steichen can take a flier on Ewers and see if the Texas product can be developed into a quality starter. If not, he should be a fine backup quarterback.”
The Colts already have Anthony Richardson, Daniel Jones, and the undrafted Jason Bean on the roster. Will they add another player to the quarterback room?
The Indianapolis Colts Are Predicted to Take Quarterback Quinn Ewers in the Fifth Round of the 2025 NFL Draft
His Career Thus Far
Quinn Ewers starred at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas. During his time there, he produced 6,445 passing yards and 73 touchdowns in only 22 games. Ewers was ranked as the No. 1 player in the 2021 class. He had college offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. However, he wound up committing to Ohio State. With the Buckeyes, Ewers backed up C.J. Stroud and played only a few snaps in a contest against Michigan State.
Ewers transferred to Texas after only one season at Ohio State. He passed for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns during his first campaign with the Longhorns. He then recorded 3,479 passing yards and 22 touchdowns in 2023. Last season, Ewers completed 293-of-445 passes for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns (led the SEC), and a 149 passing efficiency rating.
Does Drafting Ewers Make Sense?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know there’ll be a quarterback battle taking place in Indy. Yes, it will be the larger-than-life Anthony Richardson vs. Daniel Jones competition. Okay, maybe it’s not such a big deal. But who will win the starting job?
Whoever loses will serve as the primary backup. Jason Bean is third on the depth chart now that Sam Ehlinger is with the Denver Broncos.
If the Colts draft Quinn Ewers, he can duke it out with Bean for the third quarterback spot. With that said, it could be not one, but two quarterback battles in training camp this year.
As Camenker pointed out, there are questions about Ewers’ arm strength. However, he can make throws on the move when forced out of the pocket. Plus, he’s a natural rhythm passer who can also extend plays with his legs. Ewers has a good football IQ, big-game experience, and the willingness to play through pain.
While Ewers may not be as talented as Arch Manning, he could emerge as a quality backup in Indianapolis. So yes, drafting him makes sense.
