The Indianapolis Colts (7-9) host the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-12) for a matchup that’s more about continued pride within the AFC South and draft positioning—as neither team is vying for a potential playoff berth any longer.
After an embarrassing season-ending defeat last weekend against the lowly New York Giants (3-13), who had a backup quarterback starting, all bets are off on whether Indianapolis will win at home on Sunday. If Colts fans have learned anything this 2024 campaign, it’s that this team can’t be counted on for much of anything right now.
The Colts have had close matchups with the Jaguars, their divisional rivals, in the recent past and will be looking to avenge their earlier Week 5 road loss at Jacksonville this season.
With injured Jaguars starter Trevor Lawrence shut down for the season, and New England Patriots castoff Mac Jones starting in his absence, the Colts could also be turning to their own backup, Joe Flacco, as 2nd-year starter Anthony Richardson hasn’t practiced for consecutive practices and already missed last weekend’s loss with back spasms.
Otherwise, with the postseason completely out of the question, it’s an opportunity for the Colts younger players such as Laiatu Latu, AD Mitchell, Matt Goncalves, Tanor Bortolini, Jaylon Carlies, Anthony Gould, etc. to get more meaningful snaps and experience.
