INDIANAPOLIS – Punter Rigoberto Sanchez came through in a big way for the Indianapolis Colts.
The NFL took notice.
The league selected Sanchez as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. It’s the third time he’s earned the honor in his career; he won the award twice in 2021 (Week 4 and Week 7).
Sanchez was instrumental in Indy’s 20-17 win against the Tennessee Titans in Week 6. He finished with five punts for 271 yards (54.2 avg./48.4 net avg.) and pinned the Titans inside their own 20-yard line on three occasions.
His final punt came with about twelve seconds left in the game; the Colts downed it at the Titans’ 3-yard line, essentially dousing any hopes of a late, heroic comeback at Nissan Stadium.
During the game, Sanchez set a career high in punting average. On the season, he’s tied for first with punts inside the 20 (17) and ranks sixth in net punting average at 44.1.
He’s the second Colts player to earn AFC Player of the Week honors in the 2024 season, joining cornerback Jaylon Jones (Week 3). He’s the first special teamer to win POTW recognition since Matt Gay in Week 3 of the 2023 season.
The Colts host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
