INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts continued to tweak their roster, and that includes a significant adjustment to Braden Smith’s contract.
The team and Smith agreed to rework the final year of his deal with the veteran right tackle accepting a pay cut. He missed the final five games last season while dealing with personal issues, but informed the team he had an interest in returning.
That resulted in the Colts lowering Smith’s 2025 base salary from $14.75 million to $3.96 million. He still will receive a $2 million roster bonus Sunday and there is another $3 million available via play-time incentives.
The bottom line: Smith’s original cap number of $19.75 million has been lowered to $10.4 million.
That revision along with the major free-agent acquisitions of cornerback Charvarius Ward (three years, $60 million), safety Cam Bynum (four years, $60 million) and quarterback Daniel Jones (one year, $14 million) leaves the Colts with roughly $21.4 million in cap space, according to overthecap.com.
Late Wednesday, the team also signed running back Khalil Herbert and defensive tackle Neville Gallimore to one-year deals.
The cap hits of the big-ticket additions: $9.06 million for Ward, $7.01 million for Bynum and $13.65 million for Jones.
