The Indianapolis Colts have announced a date and time for new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo’s introductory press conference.
According to The Athletic’s James Boyd, Anarumo will speak with the local media at 9:00 AM ET on Thursday, January 23rd.
Anarumo was previously the Cincinnati Bengals’ defensive coordinator since 2019, and his defense was among the stingiest in the NFL during the 2022 season when the Bengals went on their run to the Super Bowl.
His coaching background lies in the secondary, where GM Chris Ballard said, the Colts need to get better. Throughout Anarumo’s time with the Bengals, his secondary consistently produced, whether it was in takeaways, pass deflections, or low completion percentages for opposing quarterbacks.
One of the hallmarks of Anarumo’s defensive scheme is versatility. This allows him to disguise what the defense is doing by having defenders that can fill a variety or roles, while also allowing the defense to operate from just a few personnel groupings.
Anarumo’s expansive playbook, where he’s added different concepts from each of his coaching stops, has helped create a flexible and quick to adjust defensive scheme that can adapt based on who the opponent is and what they are doing.
With these game-planning and play-calling qualities, Anarumo was nicknamed the ‘Mad Scientist’ during his time with the Bengals.
