Will Aaron Rodgers sport an Indianapolis Colts uniform in 2025? It’s unlikely, but you never know. ESPN’s Benjamin Solak recently predicted Rodgers could go to Indy if Sam Darnold chooses to sign with the New York Jets this offseason:
“If there’s a sleeper team to become suddenly desperate for immediate quarterback help, it’s the Colts. General manager Chris Ballard and coach Shane Steichen held on to their jobs, but without a big season in 2025, they could find themselves in hot water again,” Solak wrote.
Again, it’s unlikely that Rodgers will go to Indianapolis. But the Colts, who are known for their quarterback carousel in the past, could make it happen.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Predicted to go to the Indianapolis Colts
Rodgers’ Career Thus Far
Aaron Rodgers was expected to be taken early in the 2005 NFL Draft. Some pundits believed he would go No. 1 overall to the San Francisco 49ers. However, the 49ers drafted fellow quarterback Alex Smith instead. Meanwhile, Rodgers surprisingly slid down to the 24th overall pick and was taken by the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers would spend his first three years with the Packers, backing up Hall of Famer Brett Favre. He took over the starting job in 2008 after Favre was traded to the Jets. During his third season as the starter, Rodgers led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ended up playing 18 seasons in Green Bay.
In 2023, Rodgers “pulled a Brett Favre” and was traded to the Jets. Unfortunately, his first season in New York was ruined by an Achilles tear. This past season, he played all 17 games for the Jets, passing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns. However, the team finished with a 5-12 record.
Should the Colts Pursue Him?
Solak also wrote about Colts head coach Shane Steichen putting a good offense around Rodgers:
“Rodgers is the splashiest name on the market and completely different stylistically from incumbent Anthony Richardson, which seems to be what the Colts want in their QB2. I’d bet good money that Steichen can design a solid offense around Rodgers — if Rodgers is willing to fit into the system.”
Steichen is an offensive guru. He would certainly be capable of designing a solid offense around Rodgers if he heads to Indianapolis.
The Colts are expected to bring in competition for quarterback Anthony Richardson. Will Rodgers be that guy?
No one would argue that Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen. His impressive resume includes a Super Bowl victory, Super Bowl MVP, and a whopping four NFL MVP awards. He has been a First-Team All-Pro four times and has made 10 Pro Bowls. However, the future Hall of Famer is no longer the superstar quarterback he used to be in Green Bay.
Yes, the Colts must acquire someone who can compete with Richardson this offseason. A competition could make Richardson, who has struggled thus far, a better player. Yet, landing a 41-year-old Rodgers isn’t the answer. Some people believe he should just retire. The Colts need to bring in someone a lot younger like 25-year-old Justin Fields. Sorry to any Aaron Rodgers fans in Indy.
