Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen met with reporters at the NFL Combine on Tuesday.
In case you missed it, here are the highlights from that conversation.
– “I think it’s good. I think competition is great for everybody,” said Shane Steichen about the open competition at quarterback.
– Consistency is the biggest thing Steichen wants to see from Richardson.
– “Building on the fundamentals and continuing to work on his passing, getting the completion percentage up,” said Steichen about what Richardson needs to work on. He emphasizes the need for repetition.
– “A lot,” Steichen said about how much his history in going up against Lou Anarumo played into the decision to hire him. Schematically, Steichen was looking for coordinator candidates who have caused issues for him offensively. “He’s multiple on the back end, tight coverage–press man stuff, which will be a good switch up for us.”
– “He does a good job of disguising certain things,” added Steichen about Anarumo. Also mentions how he varies his blitzes as well.
– “He’s got a great energy about him,” Steichen said about Anarumo. He says he does a great job of connecting with players and designing the game plans to his player’s strengths. “He’s always got a plan to take their best player away.”
– “He’s had that back end playing at a high level for a long time,” Steichen said about new secondary coach Chris Hewitt.
– “To add some more pieces behind him (Jonathan Taylor) will be big,” said Steichen about the running back position.
