The Indianapolis Colts are moving toward the 2025 season in need of a new Defensive Coordinator. The Colts, for the last three years, were led by former Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley who did a solid job in charge of the defense but could never seem to get a consistent showing from his defense over the three years he was in charge for. After another wildly inconsistent season from the defense it came time for the team to make a change at the position, and Bradley was ultimately fired and a new Defensive Coordinator will take charge.
In this series, we will look into each of the defensive coordinator candidates that the Colts interview for the job vacancy and look into each of their respective backgrounds.
First up is former Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Coordinator Lou Anarumo.
Lou Anarumo is a 12-year veteran NFL coach who has spent time working with three different NFL teams during his coaching career.
Anarumo started his NFL coaching career with the Miami Dolphins in 2012-17 as the teams Defensive Backs coach and in 2015 was made interim Defensive Coordinator after Miami fired their Defensive Coordinator Kevin Coyle. Anarumo was retained by new Head Coach Adam Gase as Defensive Backs coach for the 2016-17 season.
In 2018 Anarumo was named Defensive Backs coach for the New York Giants where he stayed for just one season. As in 2019, Anarumo was hired by the Cincinnati Bengals as their Defensive Coordinator under new Head Coach Zac Taylor. Anarumo was the Defensive Coordinator for the Bengals from 2018-2024 and saw his unit help advance the team to a 2022 Super Bowl appearance against the LA Rams.
After a strong 2022 season, Lou Anarumo was a finalist for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job although it ultimately went to Jonathan Gannon. Anarumo was let go by the Bengals at the end of the 2024 season.
