The Indianapolis Colts have listed six players as inactive for Sunday’s Week 12 matchup with the Detroit Lions.
DE Isaiah Land
QB Sam Ehlinger
WR Anthony Gould
S Darren Hall
TE Will Mallory
OT Bernhard Raimann
On gamedays, teams are only permitted to have 48 players active. So with the usual 53-man roster plus one practice squad elevation from Saturday, six players had to be inactive.
The good news is that we do not see Tyquan Lewis on the list, meaning that he will be available in today’s game. Lewis returned to practice this week after being placed on injured reserve with an elbow injury following Week 4.
His presence will very much be needed against the Lions’ dynamic running back duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
With Lewis back, Land will be inactive as the fifth defensive end on the roster. Raimann will be out as well as he still works his way through a knee injury. In his place will be rookie Matt Goncalves, making his third NFL start.
As long as both Anthony Richardson and Joe Flacco are healthy, Ehlinger will be inactive, but is available as the emergency quarterback.
Gould has been a regular member of the inactives list for much of the season. With Josh Downs taking the bulk of the slot snaps and the Colts rarely using more than three receivers on the field, keeping a sixth receiver active isn’t a huge need.
This will also be the second straight game that Mallory is inactive, perhaps another sign that this will be a more run-heavy gameplan from the Colts.
Hall, meanwhile, is still getting acclimated having just arrived to Indianapolis less than three weeks ago after the team claimed him on waivers after his release from Arizona. The Colts also haven’t had more than four safeties active this season.
