Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay issued a public statement on Tuesday for the first time since the team announced back in January he was being treated for a “severe respiratory illness.”
“On the mend. Grateful for all the messages of love and support,” Irsay tweeted, including a heart emoji.

Irsay’s tweet comes after TMZ reported last month that the 64-year-old executive suffered a drug overdose at his home in Carmel, Ind. on December 8.
“Jim Irsay was found laying in his bed unresponsive, cold to the touch and gasping for air during a suspected overdose in December … this according to police in Indiana,” TMZ reported.
The Colts released their own brief statement at the time, reiterating that Irsay was dealing with a health matter.
“Mr. Irsay continues to recover from his respiratory illness. We will have no further comment on his personal health, and we continue to ask that Jim and his family’s privacy be respected,” the statement said.
Irsay has been upfront about his struggles with addiction over the years, so if he did suffer a setback in December, we’re thankful he’s alive and hoping he is continuing to try to overcome the issue.
