The season has come to an end for the Indianapolis Colts. Now it’s time to discuss who they’ll take in the draft. Justin Melo of the draftnetwork.com put together a 2025 NFL Mock Draft. He has the Colts selecting Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart in the sixth round.
“Round 6 (No. 188 overall): Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss
The Colts aren’t ready to replace Richardson, but they may be open to drafting a developmental quarterback on Day 3. Jaxson Dart possesses the necessary physical tools to potentially offer a franchise terrific value in the latter rounds. The dual-threat Dart accounted for more than 4,000 yards of offense and 28 touchdowns throughout 2024.”
Tight end and cornerback are among the Colts’ biggest needs. Melo addressed those two positions earlier in the draft. He has the team taking Michigan tight end Colston Loveland (Round 1, No. 12 overall) and Florida State cornerback Azareye’h Thomas (Round 2, No. 46 overall).
Quarterback isn’t a huge need for Indianapolis. But it wouldn’t hurt to add one to the roster.

Jaxson Dart’s Career
Jaxson Dart began his college career at USC. As a freshman against Washington State, he replaced starter Kedon Slovis and had an amazing performance. He threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Trojans to a 42-14 victory. His 391 yards set the record for most passing yards ever by a USC quarterback in their first game.
Dart transferred to Ole Miss following his rookie year. He played three seasons with the Rebels, passing for 10,617 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,498 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Dart threw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns this season. He contributed 495 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground as well. In addition, he led Ole Miss to a 10-3 record. The Utah native was impressive in this year’s Gator Bowl win over Duke. He threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns in the 52-20 blowout.
Melo has Dart going in the sixth round. But after that Gator Bowl performance, he might’ve boosted his NFL Draft stock.
Dart finished his Ole Miss career as the all-time program leader in career passing yards and ranked second in passing touchdowns behind Eli Manning. Plus, he now holds the school’s modern record for most wins by a quarterback.
Should the Colts Draft Him?
The Colts had three quarterbacks on the depth chart this season: Starter Anthony Richardson, backup Joe Flacco and third-stringer Sam Ehlinger. Plus, the undrafted Jason Bean was on the practice squad.
Richardson is expected to be the starter again next season. Flacco will be a free agent and could sign with another team. It’s unclear whether Ehlinger or Bean will return.
Adding another quarterback like Jaxson Dart makes sense. As Melo eluded to, Indy may be open to drafting a developmental signal-caller. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder possesses a combination of good arm talent and athleticism.
You never know, Dart could eventually replace Richardson. Richardson has struggled this season, completing just 47.7 percent of his passes. But although he’s not very good right now, he could ultimately develop into a star in Indianapolis. Who knows if that will ever happen? In the meantime, though, drafting Dart provides depth and would be a solid pick.
