Indianapolis Colts Wide receiver Alec Pierce returned to the practice field but remained in concussion protocol for much of the week.
Will he be available on Sunday against the New York Giants?
Will Alec Pierce play on Sunday?
Pierce sustained the concussion in the Colts’ eventual Week 15 loss to the Denver Broncos, coming down hard on his backside while going up for a ball in the end zone. He entered concussion protocol that following Monday and remained there for the entire week, which kept him out of last week’s game against Tennessee.
This week, however, Pierce was a full participant in all three days of practice, showing the progressed that he’s made, and then was cleared from concussion protocol on Friday. So he will be available in the team’s Week 17 matchup against the Giants.
Colts WR depth chart
For the first time in a few weeks, the Colts will be at full strength at the wide receiver position. In addition to Pierce missing last week’s game, Ashton Dulin had missed the previous two before that.
Awaiting the Colts’ offense is a Giants defense that ranks near the bottom in scoring and in yard per pass attempt allowed, surrendering a number of big plays through the air this season, which of course, is Pierce’s calling card.
However, I would expect that we see a more run-centric gameplan from the Colts’ offense against a struggling run defense. That success on the ground can then open up opportunities in the passing game and take some of the burden off Joe Flacco’s shoulders.
