Over the weekend the final few plays of a contest between the Cleveland Browns at Indianapolis Colts led some fans to suggest the NFL rigged the game for Cleveland.
The Browns received a few very favorable calls, including one in the final moments that eventually led to a loss for the Colts. Cleveland, thanks to some very questionable penalty calls, ended up taking a 39-38 lead against Indianapolis.
The fans who thought the NFL got it wrong were correct. In a comment on X Tuesday night, Colts owner Jim Irsay said the NFL admitted its mistake in the game.
“The NFL admits and understands that they did not make the correct calls at end of Sunday’s Colts/Browns Game,” he said. “I believe we need to institute Instant Replay for all calls, including Penalties, in the last two minutes of All Games.”
That was the bad news. However, Irsay did have some good news for fans as well. Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson had successful shoulder surgery.
“#5 QB Anthony Richardson’s surgery today in LA was a success!” Irsay said. “It was a long procedure and his shoulder injury has been repaired. No new surprises were found during surgery – they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone for the support.”
While it’s good to know Richardson should be back to 100-percent for next season, it’s a tough pill to swallow on the last-second loss to Cleveland.
