The veteran defensive coordinator will be implementing his vision, scheme, and philosophies for the Colts defense soon.
Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo was introduced as the new playcaller calling the defensive shots along the sidelines for the Horseshoe on Thursday.
The veteran defensive coordinator preached accountability and wants a ‘fast, smart, and physical defense’ going forward (who doesn’t?) with the Colts.
Here are a few key takeaways from the veteran defensive coordinator’s introductory press conference from Thursday morning:
Desire to Deploy a ‘Smart, Fast, and Physical Defense’
Anarumo wants a smart, fast, physical defense. Wants guys to know where their help is on every down and not to make any unforced errors. They want to win games by allowing the other team to make their mistakes. Said if you don’t play fast, you don’t stand a chance.

Preaching Accountability and Truth Telling
#Colts DC Lou Anarumo:
“I’m gonna be a truth teller. … It’s my job to say, ‘Yes, you’re doing it right’ or ‘No, you’re doing it wrong.’ That WILL happen. And it will happen to all of them. I don’t care the number of years in the league. … Great players want to be coached.”

Liked Colts’ soon-to-be 2nd-year pass rusher coming out of draft
Lou Anarumo said he was a big fan of Laiatu Latu’s coming out of the draft. He’s used to working with a big-time edge rusher in Trey Hendrickson, so he’ll go to work developing this one soon.

Knew GM Chris Ballard and HC Shane Steichen from competition
Lou Anarumo said he only knew Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard from competing against them in the league. He was ready for the next opportunity and this one popped up and became a fit pretty quickly.

Excited to work with Colts’ defensive players and met some already
Anarumo said he’s excited to get started with these players. Said he spoke to a number of them on the phone and some of them have popped in to him at the facility.
