Pat McAfee was a teammate of Vontae Davis’ for five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
On Monday, McAfee took time out of his daily show, along with Darius Butler, a regular guest and another former Colts teammate, to honor Davis following news of the former cornerback’s untimely death at the age of 35.
“Vontae was an incredibly cool dude: good guy, nice guy, upbeat guy, energetic guy,” McAfee said. “What I think we’ll remember him for is being an incredibly cool teammate in that locker room and being a guy that all of us enjoyed being around on a daily basis.”
Davis was found dead in his home in South Florida. According to early police statements, foul play is not suspected.
“Literally, if you knew him, you loved him, and you enjoyed the hell out of him,” McAfee continued. “Today’s been tough. It’s going to be tough. But it’s a nice perspective putter to remind everybody ‘Hey, reach out to your people.’ It doesn’t have to be every single day. Obviously, everybody has their own lives. But I haven’t talked to him in months, and obviously, I’m never gonna get to do it again.”

Davis, who played in the NFL from 2009-18, suited up for the Colts from 2012-17, earning a pair of Pro Bowl selections in the process.
Colts owner Jim Irsay also offered his condolences this afternoon, calling Davis a “great guy, teammate, player.”
“My prayers to Vontae’s family,” Irsay added.
