The Indianapolis Colts are on the road to take on the New York Jets for their week eleven game, Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
Week ten was a showcase game for the Colts and Joe “best-chance-to-win” Flacco who threw three interceptions as well as three other passes that likely should have been intercepted. If not for a few long Jonathan Taylor runs and some garbage time passing stats, last Sunday’s offensive performance would have been truly embarrassing. Meanwhile the Colts defense played their best football of the season, pressuring Josh Allen and intercepting him twice.
So Shane Steichen and the Colts, having decided that Anthony Richardson has learned his lesson, are turning back to the 22 year old passer in hopes that he can help to revive an offense that is getting everything it needs from it’s defense. Richardson will face a Jets team that has been excellent defending the pass and not so excellent defending the run, which isn’t exactly great news for Richardson as a thrower, but it might end up being great news for Jonathan Taylor.
Last week we saw Ad Mitchell have his best game as a pro hauling in 6 receptions on 6 targets for 71 yards. Mitchell played in place of an injured Michael Pittman Jr. who will play this week but may be limited.
The Jets are a bad football team led by a very old quarterback. The way I see this one there are really only two possible outcomes; A. Aaron Rodgers finds the fountain of youth and the Jets offense comes back to life, if only for a week, to punish the Colts for their football-sins. or B. the entirety of the Indianapolis Colts team rallies around their newly reinstated quarterback, who never lost support in the locker room despite his benching.
Option A sure doesn’t sound like much fun. But I have a lot of hope in option B. We often see teams play inspired football after big team-shifting events like the one we saw this week. Normally we see it after a head coach or coordinator is fired during the season, but with the way the locker room talked about Richardson for the past three weeks, it leads me to believe there’s a chance we’ll see something similar this weekend. I’m not much of a gambler but the Jets are 3.5 point favorites… There’s a chance I may have placed a bet on the Colts moneyline this week.
As always, go Colts.
