The Indianapolis Colts are at home to take on the Tennessee Titans for their week sixteen game, Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
Last week the Colts lost in spectacular fashion to the Denver Broncos. In the week that has followed Colts fans all over the internet have turned in a slew of emotional, irrational responses that seem to want everyone fired and most people want to give the 22 year old quarterback another chance with fresh leadership.
And I have to say, of all of the possible responses to this season, that is by far the dumbest thing the Colts could do.
- In the past 15 years here’s a list of starting quarterbacks under the age of 23 who have led their team to a playoff berth:
2023: C.J. Stroud- 22 years old
2019: Lamar Jackson- 22 years old
2012: Andrew Luck- 22 years old, Robert Griffin III- 22 years old
- In the past 15 years here’s a list of starting quarterbacks under the age of 23 who have led their team to winning records:
2023: C.J. Stroud- 9-6
2020: Tua Tagovailoa- 6-3
2019: Lamar Jackson 13-2
2018: Lamar Jackson 6-1
2012: Andrew Luck- 11-5, RGIII- 9-6
2010: Josh Freeman- 10-6
That’s it. Those are the lists.
I’m not saying that fans shouldn’t want more from Anthony Richardson and the Colts, obviously they’re going to want more. But expecting more is, frankly dumb. And wanting to clean house in a year when they were starting the least experienced, youngest week one starting quarterback in the NFL when the team narrowly misses the post-season?
Does anyone else see how dumb that is or is it just me?
Based on what I’m seeing very few others seem to realize how silly those expectations are. I get being disappointed. I’m disappointed. Seeing the Colts do well, is fun. I don’t like sitting out the playoffs while everyone else gets to have fun. But the fact of the matter is, the majority of Colts fans and content creators were saying the same thing before the season:
This season is all about the development of Anthony Richardson.
And now that the Colts are out of the playoffs people seem to either have forgotten that or it just so happens their belief that Richardson isn’t developing correctly coincides with the Colts playoff chances dropping to close to zero.
Interesting.
This is a much more nuanced topic than what I’m going to cover here, in this article that no one reads on their way to the comments to complain about the game. But I think this should be covered and last weeks loss hasn’t changed a thing. A loss this week, wouldn’t change a thing. Winning or losing out? You guessed it. Doesn’t change a thing. We’ll hope for wins and get ready for the offseason.
As always, Go Colts.
