What will the salary cap hit be for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor in 2025?
Taylor signed a three-year extension in October of 2023 that will keep him under contract through the 2026 season. So, as of now, Taylor has two years left on that deal.
According to Over the Cap, Taylor has a cap hit this season of $15.322 million, which includes a base salary of $11.98 million. Taylor’s cap hit is the fourth-largest on the team.
Taylor’s cap hit in 2025 is nearly $4.5 million more than it was in 2024, with the Colts choosing to backload his contract extension.
With an average annual value of $14 million per season on his current deal, Taylor will be the second-highest paid running back in football by that metric in 2025, behind only San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey.
As noted by Pro Football Network, if the Colts do want to manufacture additional cap space this offseason, they could restructure Taylor’s contract–which in short, is taking cap charges from the current year and pushing it to future years–and that would create an additional $5.41 million in cap space for this season.
But keep in mind, that would inflate Taylor’s cap hit in 2026 even more, and that already stands at $15.56 million.
Taylor returned to form during the 2024 season, rushing for 1,431 yards at 4.7 yards per attempt with 10 touchdowns. He ranked sixth among all backs in rushing yards this past year.
